SNAP Program Fraud Control Concerns Raised
Washington, Aug. 20 – States may gain some valuable federal insight on ways to help them prevent fraud in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program — formerly the Food Stamp program — in response to concerns raised about state fraud detection units.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture Office of Inspector General recently reviewed the Food and Nutrition Services’ oversight of state agency efforts to identify recipients who fraudulently misuse SNAP benefits, and to determine whether American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds for the SNAP program were used properly.
