Recovery Act Oversight and Fraud Prevention Still a Work in Progress


Washington, May 4 – Although nearly $75 billion of the estimated $246 billion states will receive from the Recovery Act has already been handed out, Congress and representatives for state and local governments remain unclear on how to best prevent fraud, abuse and mismanagement of the largest amount of stimulus spending in U.S. history.

Washington, May 4 – Although nearly $75 billion of the estimated $246 billion states will receive from the Recovery Act has already been handed out, Congress and representatives for state and local governments remain unclear on how to best prevent fraud, abuse and mismanagement of the largest amount of stimulus spending in U.S. history.

To continue revising and improving its Recovery Act spending oversight, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs met with officials from the Government Accountability Office, the National Governors Association and the National League of Cities to field their concerns and recommendations for moving forth with the rest of the funds states, counties and cities will receive.
