Range of Databases To Help RATB Investigate Potential Fraud, Waste

Washington, Jan. 15 – Officials with the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board are using a vast array of resources — ranging from the federal law enforcement database to local newspaper articles — to determine if grant funds provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act should be investigated for fraud, waste and abuse.

Nancy DiPaolo, assistant director for congressional and intergovernmental affairs with the board, told a recent National Grants Management Association luncheon that the board is taking a two-pronged approach to identifying fraud, waste and abuse — using in-depth fraud analysis and predictive analytics. The former enables it to use countless open-source public records to evaluate potential fraud.
