Interest Groups Spar Over $5 Billion in Welfare Grants Included Stimulus
Washington, Feb. 25 – Two leading policy organizations are sparring over the inclusion of a $5 billion, two-year emergency contingency fund within the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Pub. L. 111-5, that would give additional grant money to states to support their Temporary Assistance to Needy Families programs.
One conservative group is arguing the provision undermines the current welfare system while the other vehemently defends the measure.
