HUD Officials: Use Recovery Act Funds Properly

Washington, March 17 — As states and local governments receive American Recovery and Reinvestment Act stimulus funding for projects under the HOME investment partnerships grant program, they should ensure that they carefully document funds received and expended, and “follow the rules,” federal housing officials said.

Cliff Taffet, director of the Department of Housing and Urban Development office of affordable housing programs, told attendees at the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials legislative conference March 16 that as Recovery Act funds are obligated, officials from the HUD inspector general’s office will scrutinize grantees managing these funds.
