Grantees Advised To Correct ARRA Findings Now
Washington, June 21 – Grantees who are having an Office of Management and Budget Circular A-133 single audit performed on programs funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act should not be defensive about audit findings and should make every effort to correct them now instead of facing even bigger problems later, a federal inspectors general official said.
“Early reporting is encouraged,” John Fisher, technical manager for OMB Circular A-133 for the Department of Health and Human Services OIG, said recently at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ National Not-for-Profit Industry Conference. “Talk to the auditor and find out what deficiencies he or she is finding early and try to correct them. If you take corrective actions as soon as you find out, the auditors are more willing to put that in their findings.”
