DOE Unveils Competitive EECBG Program

Washington, Sept. 24 — After months devoted to getting a new, formula grant program for clean and renewable energy projects up and running, the Department of Energy recently provided prospective applicants with their first look at an accompanying, competitive program that will target a handful of more-innovative energy-saving projects.

Both types of grants are administered through the DOE’s Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program, which was authorized by the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (Pub. L. 110-140). The Recovery Act included $3.2 billion for EECBG formula and discretionary awards, which previously had received no funding from Congress.
