DHS Makes $510 Million in Preparedness Funds Available
Washington, May 29 – Local fire departments looking for funds to renovate their existing fire stations or construct totally new ones now have a chance for a share of $210 million made available under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The Department of Homeland Security today released guidance and announced a July 10 application deadline for the Fire Station Construction Grant Program. Funds are to be used for brick and mortar projects that will enhance response capabilities and protect communities from fire-related hazards. Funds are specifically designed to replace unsafe or uninhabitable structures and expand fire protection coverage to meet increased service demand in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association standards.
