Details Emerge for Energy Efficiency Grants
Washington, April 9 — As the Economic Recovery Grants Center reported last month, grant funding appropriated by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA; Pub. L. 111-5) includes a significant line item for a brand-new program administered by the Department of Energy: the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG). Up until recently, details on the program were sparse, and prospective grantees interested in funding for clean energy and energy-conservation measures in their communities had plenty of unanswered questions.
But in its recently released funding opportunity announcement, the DOE has shed considerable light on the formula-grant component of the EECBG program, which accounts for $2.8 billion out of the program’s total funding of $3.2 billion. And to provide further guidance to grantees, the department last week held a conference to field questions from local government officials.
